Planta Europa Conferences

Planta Europa conferences are excellent opportunities to meet partners from across Europe to discuss the future of plant conservation in Europe. Participants also have the chance to discuss the developments of successful projects and new approaches for European conservation, and therefore exchange first hand information on best practices for plant conservation between European partners.
The Planta Europa Conferences are held, in principle, every third year with the aim of bringing together experts from all European countries and discussing the future of conserving European wild plants in their natural habitats.

Earlier PE conferences took place at Hyeres, France (1995), Uppsala, Sweden (1998), Pruhonice, Czech Republic (2001), Valencia, Spain (2004), Cluj-Napoca, Romania (2007), Kraków, Poland (2011) and Crete, Greece (2014).

Planta Europa Awards

Part of each conference is the presentation of the Planta Europa Awards recognizing excellence in plant conservation in Europe. Planta Europa member organisations are invited to nominate suitable candidates for the Planta Europa Awards before each conference.

How to nominate?

A short recommendation (not more than one A4 side) should be sent to the Planta Europa Secretariat. The Planta Europa Steering Committee will discuss nominations and make the final decision on award winners.

Jean-Paul Galland Award

The Jean-Paul Galland Award is Planta Europa's top award. Each Planta Europa Conference presents one single Jean-Paul Galland Award to an individual for outstanding contribution to plant conservation.

Silver Leaf Award

The Silver Leaf Awards are presented in recognition of excellence in plant conservation in Europe. Both awards were presented for the first time at the second Planta Europa Conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 1998. The nominees the Planta Europa Awards are announced on the conference pages.
