About Planta Europa conferences
The last 7thnPlanta Europa conference "Plants for People, People for Plants" was hosted by the Museum of Cretan Flora of the Institute of Theology and Ecology at the Orthodox Academy of Crete in Chania, Greece, 21-25 May 2014. The outcome of the conference is summarized in the document "The PE Declaration of Crete, 2014".
The 6th Planta Europa Conference on the Conservation of Wild Plants in Europe" took place in Krakow, Poland, 23-27 May 2011.
5th Planta Europa Conference in 2007 in Romania. One of the main tasks of the last Planta Europa conference was the final review of the European Plant Conservation Strategy, and shaping the foundations of plant conservation in Europe beyond 2007.
4th Planta Europa Conference in 2004 in Spain. One of the major achievements of this conference was the Mid-term review of the European Plant Conservation Strategy (EPCS) developed at the previous conference. Targets and milestones of the Strategy were revised and lead organisations for each target confirmed.
3rd Planta Europa Conference in 2001 in the Czech Republic. This conference was marked by the development of the European Plant Conservation Strategy (EPCS), a groundbreaking initiative developing the framework for plant conservation throughout Europe.
2nd Planta Europa Conference in 1998 in Sweden. Important decisions were made at this conference regarding the future of the Planta Europa Network, including a series of resolutions and a strategic plan for the Network. Also agreed were the concept and methodology criteria for the selection of IPAs, one of the network's key projects.
1st Planta Europa Conference in 1995 in France. This 1st Planta Europa Conference was a tremendous success. It was the first ever European conference on conservation of wild plants, with delegates from 32 European countries. One of the outcomes of this conference was the decision to build up Planta Europa as a joint network for plant conservation in Europe.
Planta Europa Awards​
There are two sorts of Planta Europa awards:

Jean-Paul Galland Award
The Jean-Paul Galland Award is Planta Europa's top award. This award commemorates the French botanist and conservationist Jean-Paul Galland, who was one of the founders of Planta Europa and who was killed in a plane crash on 17 July 1996 (TWA flight 800).
Each Planta Europa Conference presents one single Jean-Paul Galland Award to an individual for outstanding contribution to plant conservation.

Silver Leaf Award
The Silver Leaf Awards are presented in recognition of excellence in plant conservation in Europe.
Both awards were presented for the first time at the second Planta Europa Conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 1998. The nominees the Planta Europa Awards are announced on the conference pages.
